The greatest challenge in life is discovering who you are and what you want to become… In the process, this dilemma awakens one’s sensibility for subjectivity; to compete with one self rather than with others. Our Foundress, Mother Teresa of St. Rose of Lima, explored this golden mantra of discovering herself amidst caste, class and gender inequality in the society of the 19th & 20th centuries. She realized that she had a great mission – to help others to actualize their sense of worth.
The fundamental mission and vision of our Foundress made a considerable mark at Mount Carmel College, Bengaluru ever since its inception in 1948 by her followers, the CSST ( Carmelite sisters), who set up this institution with single minded devotion and sincere dedication.
In the past seven decades, the college has genuinely adhered to the ultimate truth of unfurling hidden potential of promising young girls. The college gives the opportunity to our young girls to speak for, to speak with and to speak about them in their own space. This element of Mount Carmel PU College has enormously contributed towards the metamorphosis of our society and empowered women to realize their dreams and aspirations.
Today, Mount Carmel College has a feather in its cap as one of the top ten colleges of India and has the pride of catering to the highest number of girl students in Karnataka state. The motto of “empowerment through education” at Mount Carmel College envelops all spheres of life. Great personalities and Alumini of Mount Carmel College – Ms. Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Ms. Margaret Alva, Ms. Nisha Millet, Ms. Radhika Pandit and many others have walked a long path to realize their dreams as entrepreneurs, politicians, sportspersons, actresses and much more. If one asks any Carmelite, she would proudly say that the college is a friendly space with a welcoming ambience; a homely fraternity with a plethora of opportunities! The scenic beauty all around campus and a determined and disciplined life at Mount Carmel College has paved the way for these young women’s success.
Hence, once a Carmelite, forever a Carmelite!
I implore God’s choicest blessings on every student who is, was and will be a part of the great learning at Mount Carmel College.
God Bless!
Mrs. Babitha Saldanha
Principal, Mount Carmel PU College
